Carl K. Lewis, Sr., 95, formerly of East Jordan, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at his home in Petoskey.

  He was born on June 5, 1922 in Kewadin, Michigan, the son of Samuel and Zella B. (Ellis) Lewis.

He grew up in East Jordan. He served in the United State Arm during World War II and was a two time recipient of the Purple Heart.

  On September 4, 1947, he married Mary Lou Hannan.  She preceded him in death in 2003.

  Carl had worked security at Michigan Maple Block Company in Petoskey before retiring.

  The Lewis family would like to thank his grandson, Kyle Lewis, for all the loving care he gave his grandfather for the last 8 years.

  He is survived by five children, Michael (Darlene) Lewis of Petoskey, William Lewis of Wolverine, Sheryl “Sherry” (Dave) Gaunt of East Jordan, Carl Kenneth Lewis, Jr. of Petoskey and Jerry Lewis of Petoskey; ten grandchildren, Heidi (Tom) Birkenbach of Paw Paw, Jason (Lori Grantham) Gaunt Schoolcraft, Kyle Lewis of Petoskey, Jared Lewis of Petoskey, Chris (Darla Zak) Lewis of Petoskey, Zack Lewis of Petoskey, Levi Lewis of Petoskey, Heather Lewis of Petoskey, Sara Lewis of Petoskey and Michelle Lewis of Petoskey; twelve great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and ten siblings, Ellwood of Hebron, Indiana, Peter Lewis of East Jordan, Sam Lewis of Bellaire, Beatrice Close of Bellaire, Sally Lewis of Bellaire, Merilynn Brownell of East Jordan, Linda Milks of Roger City, Sharon Lavanway of East Jordan, Marjory Bunker of East Jordan and Yvonne Emery of Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by one son, James Lewis and one grandson, William Lewis.

  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at the Lighthouse Missionary Church, 7874 Rogers Road, East Jordan, MI.  Rev. Tim Green will officiate.  Graveside services and military honors will be held at 3:00 P.M. at Greenwood Cemetery, 105 Greenwood Street, Petoskey, MI.

  The family will received friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., 621 Main Street, East Jordan, MI.  Memorial contributions may be given to the DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati OH 45250-0301.
