Lyle K. Shipe, of East Jordan died on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Brook in Boyne City.
He was born on January 28, 1930, in Detroit, the son of Kenneth and Marjorie (Atkins) Shipe. On October 13, 1954, in Redford, he married Nancy J. Pisa. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2017.
He served in the United State Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Lyle had previously worked as a production manager at EJ Company (formerly known as East Jordan Iron Works) and a Detroit Police Officer for sixteen years. Lyle joined the Michigan Snowmobiler Magazine in 1968, became editor in 1977, and editor & publisher in 1980. He was inducted into the International Snowmobiler’s Hall of Fame in 2014, in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Lyle is survived by three children, David (Robin) Shipe of West Branch, Patti (Bill) Tisron of East Jordan and Dennis (Ayn) Shipe of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Bill (Chelsea) Tisron, Jr. of Lake City, Shane (Rachael) Tisron of East Jordan, John Miller of Rose City, Brian Shipe of Phoenix, Arizona, Judy (Roger) Grant of Beavercreek, Ohio; and eight great grandchildren, Natalee, Waylon, Alyssa, Angela, Kristi, Avery, Michaela and Delaney. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Duane and Nelson Shipe.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Rev. Donald Kinloch of the First Presbyterian Church in East Jordan will officiate with military honors following.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
