Marian Rita Sleva Daneff, 85, of East Jordan, MI, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, with her family by her side after a brief illness.

  Marian was born August 30, 1931, in Swartz Creek, MI, where she lived until she married Boris Daneff, Jr. on June 2, 1951. They made their home in Detroit and Marian then attended nursing school to become an LPN.

  Marian and Boris raised three sons, Phillip, Mark and Matthew in Detroit.  In 1972, the family moved to East Jordan, MI, after purchasing the Wagon Wheel Restaurant. Four years later, Marian returned to nursing at Grandview Medical Care Facility where she made many friends before retiring in 1992 to care for her sister.

  Marian was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan where she was actively involved in the St. Anne’s Guild. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7580 Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and the local Michigan Public School Retirees group. She enjoyed caring for animals, playing cards with friends, garage sales, going out for Chinese food and keeping up with her news programs. Marian loved cooking and baking for others and her quirky sense of humor will forever be cherished.

  Marian is survived by her sister, Patricia Sleva of East Jordan; brother, Tom Sleva of Linden, MI; sons Phillip (Lily) of Dimondale, MI and Mark (Doreen) of East Jordan; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boris; her son Matthew; her brother Dennis Sleva; and her parents, Joseph and Martha Sleva.

  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in East Jordan.

  The family will receive friends at Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan on Sunday, April 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society, 614 Beardsley Street, Boyne City, MI 49712.
