Reno Earl Lane

August 30, 1929 ~ February 22, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

  Reno Earl Lane, 87, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at his home near East Jordan.

  He was born on August 30, 1929, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Ray and Margaret (Diendorf) Lane.  In 1948, he graduated from high school in Lansing.  Reno served in the United State Army in the early 1950s.

  On April 18, 1952, in Mancelona, Michigan, he married Dorothy Stradinger.  He had worked as a press operator for Mt. Clemens Metal Company in Mancelona and later, a tool & die maker as the company developed into Gulf & Western.

  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.

  When Reno was younger, he proudly served on both the East Jordan Ambulance Department and the East Jordan Fire Department.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, playing in local pool table leagues, and in later years, puzzles.  He enjoyed animals, both wild and domestic.  He was especially fond of his two special feline friends, Sam  and Suzy.

  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Lane of East Jordan; three children, Rebecca Bigari of Iron River, Timothy (Tammy) Lane of East Jordan and Victoria (Joe) Wagner of Boyne City; seven grandchildren, Kristina (Eric) Nelson of Greenville, WI, Kerry (Jon) Hurley of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Benjamin (Trina) Sweet of Elmira, Sara (Robert) Huffman of East Jordan, Katie (Ben) Bluhm of Marshfield, WI, Kim (Clint) Kavanagh of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Mike Oliver of Boyne City; seven great grandchildren, Chloe Huffman, Delaney Huffman, Charlotte Huffman, Evangeline Sweet, Maverick Sweet, Maggie Kavanagh and Baby Bluhm.  Reno was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; one son, Richard Lane; one grandson; Brandon Sweet; and one great grandson, Devin Huffman.

  Funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.  Rev. Chet Collins will officiate.  Interment will be in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.

  The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Memorials may be directed to the Charlevoix County Humane Society, 614 Beardsley Street, Boyne City MI 49712.  Arrangements were handled by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.   A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire Highway, Bellaire, MI.
