Velda J. LaVanway, 85, died Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

  She was born on September 6, 1932, in Kearney Township, Antrim County, Michigan. 

  Earlier, Velda had worked many years as a nurse at the hospital, now known as McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, in Petoskey.

  She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Coon of Alba; three sons, George Coon of Mancelona, Greg Coon of Alba and Ken LaVanway of East Jordan; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Conn Sedelmaier of East Jordan; three step daughters, Debbie Schram, Vickie Kleeman and Donna Jean  Rousseau, all of Mancelona; and three step grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Clinton Coon; her second husband, Donald LaVanway; one infant son, Clinton Earl Coon; one daughter, Clarrisa Sedelmaier; and two sisters, Sandy Johnson and Rose Prause.

   Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.  Rev. Bart Adams of the Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan will officiate.  Interment will be in Star Township Cemetery in Alba, Michigan.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until service time at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
