Walter H. Olson

  Walter H. Olson, Sr., 80, died suddenly on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at his home in East Jordan.

  He was born on April 21, 1937, in East Jordan, the son of Ole and Vera (Barr) Olson.

  On September 24, 1960, in East Jordan, he married Veronica “Ronni” Olson.  She preceded him in death on September 16, 2006.

  On February 2, 2007, East Jordan, he married Lily Hughey Kolinske. 

  Walt starting his working life as a paperboy, then worked at the canning factory, East Jordan Iron Works and the local A&P Grocery Store, all in East Jordan.  Most of his working life, he worked as a mechanic and truck driver for the Charlevoix County Road Commission.  He retired on December 25, 1998, after 27 years.

  Walt enjoyed the outdoors.  He loved walking in the woods, hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking.

  He is survived by his wife, Lily Olson of East Jordan; three sons, Walter H. Olson, Jr. of East Jordan, Calvin (Ramona) Olson of East Jordan and Tom Olson of Grayling; two granddaughters, Natasha and Liane Olson; one great grandchild, Vincent Olson; three sisters, Bernice Carey, Thelma McKinnon, Hilda Lou (Dan) Faust, all of East Jordan; one brother, Jerry (Carol) Olson of East Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Ray Olson.

  A celebration of life service will be held in the spring and will be announced. 

    The family has asked that memorial contributions be directed to Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.
