Arthur LaVern Bowen, 86, of Central Lake, Michigan died Friday, January 26, 2018, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
He was born on July 3, 1931, in Alba, Michigan, the son of Oscar and Mrytle (Richmond) Bowen.
In 1953, he married Betty A. Guffey, in Drayton Plains, Michigan. He was an investor, buying and selling properties.
Betty and Art moved from Grand Rapids to Ellsworth approximately 32 years ago and then to Central Lake in 2002.
He is survived by two sisters, Beatrice Putnam of North Fort Myers, Florida, and Lavina (Russell) Tober of Grand Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews. Vern was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty on December 10, 2015; as well as two brothers, James Bowen and Oscar Stably; and two sisters, Evelyn Putman and Ruth Young.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Rev. James L. Jordan of the Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan will officiate. The family received friends on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until service time.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Star Township Cemetery in Alba, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Antrim County Commission on Aging.
