Jean Christine Peterson, beloved mom and grandmother, passed away

Monday, October 23, 2017, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, where she had made her home for the past year and a half.

  Jean was born January 23, 1926, in East Jordan, the youngest child of Charles H., Sr. and Martina (Thompson) Dennis. She attended East Jordan High School and on July 17, 1943, she married her handsome U.S. Marine, Leon L. Peterson, while he was home on leave.

  Leon and Jean spent most of their lives in East Jordan with a few brief years in Bronson, Michigan.  Jean worked for Bos’ Locker Plant which later became Glen’s Market.  She would stay with the company for 23 more years. She worked in many capacities, including produce manager and head cashier.

  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in East Jordan and the American Legion Auxiliary in East Jordan.

  Jean was a great cook, a spotless housekeeper with a work ethic and money management skills that all should follow!  She loved family celebrations, attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  She loved spoiling all those she loved at Christmas time!  She will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile and her great love for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; her siblings, Dorothy Sommerville, Charles Dennis, Jr., Clifford Dennis, Delbert Dennis and Eva Healey.

  She is survived by her children, Jack (Barb) Peterson, Nancy (Ted) Sherman, Denny Peterson, Allan (Beth) Peterson and Frank (Julie) Timmer; fifteen grandchildren, Susan,  Louie, Ted, Matthew, Chris, Cory, Amanda, Tony, April, Martina, Jordan, Trey, Abby, Bobby and Mindy; as well as nine great grandchildren, Ryan, Carter, Alyssa, Ella, Benny, Ayden, Kylee, Anna and Alice.  She loved each and every one of us so much!

  The family would like to also extend a huge “Thank You” to all the staff at Grandvue M.C.F. for their amazing love and care given to our precious mom this past 18 months.  Words cannot express how much it has meant to all her family.

  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc.  Rev. Donald Kinloch will officiate with interment following in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.

  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.   Memorials may be given to the Terrace and Recreation Park Project at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, 1728 S. Peninsula Road, East Jordan, MI 49727.
