Jerry E. Nemecek, 80, of East Jordan died Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Petoskey.

  He was born on January 31, 1937, in East Jordan, Michigan, the son of Edward and Rose (Burbank) Nemecek.  He grew up in East Jordan and graduated from East Jordan High School in 1954. 

  Jerry served in the United States Army.

  On February 3, 1973, in Central Lake, he married Elsie Barrow Shackelford.

  They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977.  Jerry had worked as an upholsterer and carpenter until his retirement.  He was a member of Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1780.  He retired in 1995 and they moved to East Jordan.

  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.

  Jerry enjoyed bowling, fishing and upholstering.

  He is survived by his wife, Elsie Nemecek of East Jordan; three children, Lisa Shackelford of Las Vegus, Nevada, Mitchell Shackelford of Renton, Washington and Jeremy (Debbie) Nemecek of East Jordan; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Vallance of East Jordan, Kate (Jerry ) Bingham of East Jordan, Josephine Morris of East Jordan and Esther Paliwoda of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Donna Nemecek of East Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Emmanuel Nemecek in 1999; and one brother, Ray F. Nemecek in 2014.

  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan with military honors following.  Interment will be at Southern Cemetery in Central Lake.

  The family will received friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask memorial contributions to be directed to the Jerry E.
