Marie Antoinette “Ann” Forton, 96, formerly of Petoskey, died on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, East Jordan.
She was born on December 11, 1922, in Robertsonville, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Napoleon “Paul” and Delina (Grenier) Doyon. She married Thomas J. Forton, Sr. on February 14, 1942, in Ferndale. They lived in the Boyne City area for many years. They built, owned and operated ”Tomi’s Bar on the Boyne City – Charlevoix Road. It is now the sight of Bella Vita Restaurant. They moved to Imlay City in 1976 and later to Kalkaska. Thomas passed away in 1986. Ann then moved to Petoskey.
Ann had worked most of her life as an office secretary.
Her family was the most important part of her life and she looked forward to family get togethers. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, puzzles and the outdoors.
Ann is survived by two children, Tom Forton, Jr. and Theresa Crain, both of Gaylord; four grandchildren, Diane Crain, Mark Crain, Renee Crain and Paula Pearson; five great grandchildren; six great great grandildren; one sister, Cecile Boulley, Washington, MI; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, two great grandchildren, Christopher Crain and Ashley Malkowicz, and son-in-law, Larry E. Crain.
Memorials may be given to Grandvue Medical Care Facility, 1728 S. Peninsula Road, East Jordan, MI 49727.
A visitation was held Sunday, March 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan.
A graveside service will be held in the spring, at Maple Lawn Cemetery, in Boyne City, Michigan.
