Marietta Walden, 90, of East Jordan, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, East Jordan.
She was born on June 23, 1928, in East Jordan, the daughter of Seymour and Carrie (Nessel) Burbank. She graduated from East Jordan High School in 1946.
On June 29, 1946, in East Jordan, she married William C. “Bill” Walden. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.
Marietta Walden was a life long resident of East Jordan and had worked at the East Jordan Library on Main Street for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.
Marietta was a very friendly person who was always available to help anyone in need. She was also a very good conversationalist.
Marietta is survived by two daughters, Teresa Verellen of Traverse City and Michelle (Tim) Hansma, of East Jordan; daughter-in-law, Deborah Walden of Elkhart, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Christopher K. Walden; son-in-law, Brian Sweet; grandson, Adam Jones; two brothers, Charles Burbank and Fred Burbank; and five sisters, Beatrice Batterbee, Cecila King, Dorothy Heinzelman, Rose Nemecek O’Gorman Katalik and Helen Ager Burns Thomas.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan, MI. Rev. Fr. Peter Wigton will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, East Jordan.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the East Jordan Ambulance Association.
