Archibald “Arch” Dettman, 80, of Eveline Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.
He was born on October 13, 1942, in Detroit, the son of Archibald, Sr. and Ellen (Elvert) Dettman.
He graduated from Redford High School in 1960 and afterward at Wayne State University; and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1970.
He served in the United State Army.
Arch married Elaine Dogariu on March 8, 1970, in Detroit.
He served Shiawassee County families as a family physician for over 30 years, making house calls and delivering over 800 babies. He was known as a good friend as well as a doctor.
He was honored by Owosso Memorial Hospital in 2000 by naming him, “Humanitarian of the Year”.
Arch enjoyed making stain glass windows and sculptures, bike riding, astronomy, reading, woodworking and boating.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Dettman of Eveline Township; two sons, Eric (Lynda) Dettman of Phoenix, Arizona and Adam (Caroline) Dettman of Elmhurst, Illinois; and five grandchildren, A.J., Dawson, Owen, Abraham and Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Katherine LeFevere; and one brother, Maurice Dettman.
