Barbara Ann (Burr) Worgess, 82, of East Jordan, passed away on July 31, 2023.
Barbara was born on February 18, 1941, to Harry Martin Burr and Margaret Ann Kindra Burr in Mt Clemens, Michigan. After Barbara graduated from Anchor Bay High School in 1958, she went on to study at Michigan State University.
In 1985, after 25-plus years in the workforce, Barbara moved to East Jordan and opened her own business, Jordan Valley Accounting. At 50 years old graduated with a BA in Accounting from Lake Superior State University.
Barbara’s passions were community service and the people of East Jordan, Michigan. She served as president of the East Jordan Rotary and the East Jordan Chamber of Commerce. She was a founding member of The Jordan Valley Depot, East Jordan Rotary Variety Show, and Pop Warner Football. She served on the Jordan River Arts Council Board of Directors and North Central Michigan College Foundation Board. She was involved with East Jordan Sports Boosters, East Jordan DDA, Junior Achievement, Strive, Green Light East Jordan Business Completion Committee, and the Miss East Jordan Scholarship Pageant. She was honored in 1999 as Citizen of the Year in East Jordan and Grand Marshal for the Freedom Festival Grand Parade. In 2021, she was awarded 20 years of service achievement by the City of East Jordan.
Barbara loved to travel and was a worldwide traveler and visited all 50 states.
Barbara was preceded in death by both of her parents; her brothers Richard, Tommy and David; and her son Thomas. She is survived by her children Fred, Bob, Brad, and Margaret Ann; stepson Anthony Worgess; siblings Michael Burr, Martha Powers, and Julie Kelford; a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.
The family will receive friends at the Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan on Sunday 2-6 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:30 P.M.
