Betty Jean (Ager) Skrocki

Betty Jean Skrocki, 93, of East Jordan, died on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Bellaire.

  She was born on October 5, 1931, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Edward and Josephine (Fitzgerald) Ager.  She graduated from East Jordan High School in 1949.

  She married William J. Skrocki on July 15, 1950, in East Jordan. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2001.  Betty worked in the cafeteria at the East Jordan Public Schools for 20 years.  She retired in 1992.

  Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on St. Anne’s Guild.  She was named East Jordan’s Mother of the Year in 2015.

  Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, baking and celebrating holidays.  She loved delivering themed cut out cookies and decorating her home for every Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day & Easter, and every year she could be found decked out in shamrocks enjoying a green beer for St. Patrick’s Day.

  In her later years, Betty enjoyed watching the many different birds who frequented her feeders throughout the day, cheering for the Detroit Tigers in the summer, and evenings at home with her beloved cat, Bella, in her lap never missing an episode of  “The Wheel” or Jeopardy!

She is survived by three sons; Dave (Dee) Skrocki of East Jordan, Doug (Kim) Skrocki of Boyne City, Duane (Kim) Skrocki of East Jordan; three daughters,

Donna (Arlie Frey) Derenzy, Debbie (Norm) Olson and Deanna (Mike) Skop all of East Jordan; sixteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren;

sixteen great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

  She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dennis Skrocki on July 29, 2001; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Skrocki on September 6, 1997; four sisters, Esther Kidder, June Holm, Helen Lord, and Dorothy Ager; two brothers, Gerald and Donald Ager; and one son-in-law, Glenn Derenzy.

  Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.

  Interment will be in St. John Nepomucene Praga Cemetery, Jordan Township, Antrim County, MI.

  The family will receive friends on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:30 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Antrim County Animal Shelter. 4660 M-88 Bellaire, MI 49715.
