Bonita “Bonnie” Snyder Damer passed away at home peacefully surrounded by family following a brief illness on May 22, 2024.
She was born July 23, 1939 in Royal Oak, Michigan, 4th of 10 surviving children born to Wilbur & Dawn Disney Snyder.
Raised primarily on the family farm in Eveline Township, Bonnie graduated from East Jordan High School in 1957. She met the love of her life at a dance a few years later, and married Lary Damer of Boyne Falls on November 12, 1961. They were blessed with 3 daughters who were their pride & joy.
Although she worked outside the home for brief periods throughout the years it was as a homemaker that she truly excelled. Her interests were varied and she had a knack for doing it all with excellence: cooking, gardening, painting, dancing, travel, reading, crafts – and spoiling her family rotten! She loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Spiritual matters were always of utmost importance to Bonnie. For years she searched for a religion that taught what she felt in her heart was the truth, and was baptized in September 1968 into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She remained a faithful and active member for the rest of her life. Her faith in God and His teachings gave her the peace & confidence in knowing she did all He wanted of her in this life.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 62 years; three daughters: Dawn (Jerome) Kieliszewski, Denise (Eric) Stevens, and Larene (John) Krill; 6 siblings: Bill (Connie), Barry (Judy), Beverly (Ron Sulak), Donald (Mary Klekotka), Jack (Sharon) and Jerry (Holly); a sister-in law Irene Damer Reynolds; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who felt like family. Her parents and three siblings(Betty, Robert “Bob” and Harold) predeceased her.
She had an infectious laugh, was always outgoing and friendly to all, compassionate, and was loved by all who knew her, especially her family. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Tuesday 10-12 at Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan, with services at 12:00 Noon followed by a luncheon at Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Michigan.
