Claudio Cortez Castaneda, 93, of East Jordan, died Monday, September 26, 2022, in Charlevoix, Michigan.
He was born on August 12, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Gregorio and Sara (Cortez) Castaneda. He grew up in San Antonio. He moved to Racine 1950.
Claudio worked 25 years, as a stationary engineer on boiler heating systems, for the Racine Unified School District in Racine, Wisconsin. He retired in 1992.
On December 9, 1967, he married Patricia L. Sineway at St. Rose Catholic Church in Racine, Wisconsin. They moved to Detroit in 1992 and then to East Jordan 1999.
Claudio had been an ordained permanent deacon for the Milwaukee Archdiocese. He was also a very active member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan.
He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his lawn. He loved to traveling and spend time with his family.
Claudio is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Castaneda of East Jordan; three daughters, Sonya Castaneda of Traverse City, Michelle Castaneda of Traverse City and Micha Castaneda of Old Mission; fourteen grandchildren; two sisters, Matilda Razo of San Antonio, Texas and Josephine DeLaSantos of St. George, Utah; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and three grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, East Jordan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. A rosary service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
