Curt Sims, 67, passed away suddenly on, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at his home in Boyne City, Charlevoix County, MI.
He was born on January 14, 1958, in Cadillac, the son of Larry Robert and Joan Elizabeth (Bennett) Sims.
They raised him on his great grandmother’s dairy farm, the Nobel family homestead farm, in Advance. He graduated from Boyne City High School in 1976.
Curt worked 38 years for EJ, USA; formerly the East Jordan Iron Works, and retired in 2020. For the last 5 years, Curt drove bus for the Boyne City Public Schools.
Curt was known as a “gear head”. He loved working on anything mechanical. His baby was his 68 Plymouth Barracuda convertible, which he has owned since the age of 16. In his younger years he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles with his friends.
Curt had a big heart. He loved his job as a school bus driver and all of the kids. He also enjoyed helping those in need, lending a hand to anyone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Lee Sims of Boyne City; four children, Shawn (Nicolette Bishop, significant other) Sims of Texas, Chad (Robin) Callahan of Virginia, Justin (Carly) Callahan of Muskegon and Jared (Amy Lawson, fiancée) Callahan of Charlevoix; twelve grandchildren, Leanna, Kadence, Navi, London, Stephanie, Cecily, Sarah, Josh, Grayson, JoJo, Adam and Nev; four siblings, Lyn (Daniel) Sims-Nielsen of Traverse City, Jon Sims of Advance, Lorraine Sims of Advance and Melanie Sims of Advance.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Joan E. Sims on August 20, 2002 and his father, Larry R. Sims on September 5, 2014.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at the Walloon Lake Community Church, 4320 M-75 N., Walloon Lake, MI 49796.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be directed to the Boyne City Public Schools to go to kids’ needs.
