David Lee Smith, 79, of East Jordan, died on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at his home.
He was born on April 26, 1940, in East Jordan, the son of Arnold Albert and Olive Mae (Davis) Smith.
He graduated from East Jordan High School in 1958 and then studied welding in trade school.
On January 13, 1962, in Grand Haven, he married Carol Nelson.
David had been the owner and operator of several East Jordan companies, D.L. Smith Excavating, Jordan Valley Concrete, Northland Septic as well as the Mallard Golf Club.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club of East Jordan and a Paul Harris Fellow.
David is survived by his wife, Carol Smith of East Jordan; three children, Arnold (Angela) Smith of East Jordan, Kelly Smith of East Jordan and Kathy (Dan) Dupes of Port Huron; seven grandchildren, Kandra (Travis Curtis) Carson, Kyle Carson, Chelsea (Alissa) Carson, Noah Daniel Dupes, Tessa Elizabeth Dupes, Logan Smith and Lauren Smith; and one brother, Albert Joseph “Joe” (Carolyn) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Katherine Chipman.
Family and friend will be gathering on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the East Jordan Snowmobile Club.
