Donald Peck Obituary

  Donald Lee Peck, 88, of Boyne City, died on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, East Jordan.

  He was born on April 23, 1932, in East Jordan, the son of Ora and Beatrice (Groh) Peck.   Don was an all conference basketball player on the 1950 Boyne City quarterfinal team. He graduated from Boyne City High School in 1950.

  On August 18, 1951, in East Jordan, he married Virginia H. Kroll. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1998.

  Don was a barber for over 45 years.  He started out in Fenton and then moved to Boyne City in 1968.  He owned his own barbershop in Boyne City until 1996. Afterwards, he continued to cut hair at his home.

  He enjoyed spending time with his family.  He enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing cards, bowling, going to deer camp and taking his wife to the casino.

  Don had been a member of the Lions Club in Boyne City.  

  In his younger days, Don was a heck of a baseball player.  At one time, he had been assigned to the Chicago Cubs.

  Don is survived by four children, Donald C. (Kim) Peck of Kewadin, Janie (Dennis) Amesbury of Boyne City, David (Kerry) Peck of Boyne City, and Doug (Jodi) Peck of East Jordan; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchild; one sister, Leona Stanek of East Jordan; one sister-in-law, Kathleen “Kay” Peck of Boyne City; one brother-in-law Robert "Bob" Kroll of Boyne City; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death bya great grandchild, Haven Everly;his parents; two brothers, Floyd William “Finn” Peck and Robert "Bob” H. Peck.

  A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.  The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.

  The Peck family would like to express their heart felt “Thank You” to the staff of Grandvue Medical Care Facility.  Since the pandemic, the staff and residents were Don’s family, as we were not able to visit him. 

  Memorials may be given to the Grandvue Medical Facility or the Boyne City Fire Department.
