Donald Lee Peters

Donald Lee Peters, 85, of East Jordan, died on Monday, April 21, 2025, in Traverse City.

He was born on August 14, 1939, in Charlevoix, the son of Lyle Erwin and Beatrice M. (Crittenden) Peters.

He grew up in East Jordan and graduated from East Jordan High School in 1957.  He received his bachelor's degree in History from Michigan State University in 1962, and later his Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University.

On December 22, 1962, in Boyne City, he married Jean L. Snyder.

Don retired in 1990 after serving as the principal of the East Jordan Elementary School for 26 years.

He was a proud charter member of the Lions Club of East Jordan and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and community service it offered for over 50 years. In his free time, he loved camping, traveling, and playing golf—especially with his best buddy, Jim. He and his wife shared an intense passion for all sports—you could always find them watching just about any game together. Family meant everything to him, and he never hesitated to lend a hand or offer support whenever it was needed. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife, Jean Snyder of East Jordan; one son, Tom (Robin) Peters of East Jordan; one daughter, Jillyn (Martin) Kubiak of Lake Orion; six grandchildren, Kyle (Betsy) Peters of East Jordan, Shaina (Ryan) Peterson of East Jordan, Valerie (Matt) DeWyse of Hudsonville, Gabe Kubiak of Bloomfield Hills, Josephine Kubiak of Lake Orion and Aaron Kubiak of Lake Orion; six great grandchildren, Brody, Sullivan and Huxley Peters of East Jordan, Quinn and Bridger Peterson of East Jordan and Dayton DeWyse of Hudsonville; and two brothers, Gerald (Roger Parsley) Peters of Carrabelle, Florida, and Keith (Debbie) Peters of East Jordan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at the Lighthouse Missionary Church in East Jordan. Pastor Bart Adams will officiate.  Interment following at Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
