Elsie Dawn (Barrow) Nemecek

  Elsie Dawn Nemecek, 81, of East Jordan, died on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Petoskey.

  She was born on November 19, 1943, in Central Lake, the daughter of William James and Martha Jane (Clark) Barrow.

 She grew up in Central Lake until the family moved to Detroit- where she graduated from high school (1961).

 She married Laid Shackelford in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1970.

 In late 1972, after moving back to Central Lake, Elsie met Jerry E. Nemecek and married 

him in 1973. They resided in Central Lake and were blessed with one child. Though they lived in Nevada for several years, they moved back to East Jordan, where they lived until he preceded her in death in 2017. 

 She was an active member of Jordan Valley Baptist Church in East Jordan and cherished times with family and friends.

 She is survived by two children, Mitchell Shackelford of Seattle, Washington and Jeremy (Debbie) Nemecek of East Jordan; five grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one brother, Chuck (Ginny) Barrow of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Marie Miles of West Olive, MI; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Shackelford; two grandsons, Emmanuel Nemecek and Tyler Hernandez; her parents; two brothers, William Barrow and Ray Barrow; and one sister,  Lavona "Bonnie" Johnson.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.  Pastor Silas Doctor of the Jordan Valley Baptist Church in East Jordan will officiate.  Interment will be in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake, Michigan.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Jordan Valley Baptist Church.
