Gerald H. “Jerry” Burd, 64, passed away peacefully after a short stay at the Hiland Cottage hospice house in Petoskey, Michigan on Friday, August 27, 2021, with both of his sisters by his side.
Jerry was born on March 27, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, to Margaret Helen (Britton) and Russell Harlow Burd.
In 1964, Jerry moved with his family to East Jordan, Michigan. Jerry graduated from East Jordan High school in 1975.
Jerry spent many years in Traverse City working construction before returning to his hometown. Jerry worked maintenance at McDonald's until this past fall.
Jerry enjoyed playing chess with friends, playing cards, kayaking, exploring local lakes and rivers, camping and driving through the Jordan Valley. Jerry loved visiting his family in Wyandotte.
Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry J. Burd; his sisters, Molly (Ted) Schinkath of Boyne City and Cindy (Dave) Stark of East Jordan; nieces, Kim (Jim) Brooks, Brenda (Harley)Vaughan, Angie (Randy) Dowker, Judy Copperstone, Debbie (Bill) White, Darlene (Kyle) Olnhausen, Faith Nichols and Lacey Burd; nephews, James (Michelle) Bailey, Mark (Terri) Thorsen, James (Vicky) Burd, Kenn (Jenny) Young, Steven (Misty) Hawkins, Eric (Susan) Seelig, David (Jennifer) Hawkins, Gary Hammond, Robert Burd and Ryan Burd. Jerry also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews; many special friends and a lot of co-workers.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret H Burd-Winston, his father, Russell H. Burd, his step-father, Ormand Winston; siblings, James Burd, Darlene Long, Nancy Knas, Diane Miller and Robert Burd; niece Lynn Thorsen; and nephews, John Miller and Billy Hollis.
Jerry was a simple person who touched the lives of many. The family is choosing to remember Jerry ‘s life privately at this time.
