Gerald "Jerry" Norbert Schmidt, 85, passed away on March 5, 2024, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on January 22, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan.
Jerry proudly served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962, stationed on the USS Tutulia based in Norfolk, VA. He dedicated 33 years of his life to Cadillac as a designer, playing a significant role in the design of the 1978 El Dorado.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed his hobbies including; his passion for cars, owning a 1978 El Dorado and a 1928 Ford Model A, as well as his interest in tractors, bowling, golf, snowmobiling, and collecting stray dogs over the years. He loved to tinker. He may have singed off his eyebrows a few times and experienced other various tinkering injuries. They all made for good stories.
Jerry is survived by his beloved spouse of 64 years, Arlene; his children Mike Schmidt, Nancy Chatfield (Bill), Linda Mosser, Bob Schmidt (Robin), and Chris Schmidt (Danielle), along with 11 grandchildren, Sara ( James), Rachel, Abby, Jordan, Taylor, Brooke, Anna, Matthew, Avery, Kate, Nate and 2 great-granddaughters, Claire and Jacquelyn. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Sean Mosser.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date to honor and remember Jerry's remarkable life.
