James Larry Barnett, Sr.

  James Larry Barnett, Sr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at his home in Echo Township, Antrim County, Michigan.

  He was born on May 1, 1939, in East Jordan, the son of E. Cuthbert “Bill” and Pauline (Nowland) Barnett.

  He attended East Jordan Public Schools.  He served in the United State Army from 1956 to 1959.

  Jim married Shirley Ann Sodergren in Kentwood, Michigan, on January 17, 1970.

  He worked at Mt. Clemens Metal Products in East Jordan and later became the plant manager of Gulf & Western.  They then moved to Tecumseh, Michigan and worked at DST Industries in Clinton, Michigan.  He retired in June of 1999.  He moved back to the East Jordan area after retirement.

  He enjoyed working on computers, passionate about grooming his lawn, spending time working in his garage, family genealogy and helping to maintain local cemeteries.

  Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Barnett of East Jordan; five children, Debbie (Dave) RosKamp of East Jordan, Carl (Kim) Steuer of Elk Rapids, James Larry (Carolyn) Barnett, Jr. of East Jordan, Julie (Chuck) Brooks of Wolverine and Daniel Thomas (Daphne) Barnett of East Jordan and; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother, Dick (Elaine) Barnett of East Jordan; one brother-in-law, Bernard Hammond of East Jordan and one sister-in-law Hope Barnett of East Jordan.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Hammond; and one brother, William “Barney” Barnett.

  Private family service will be held.  Burial will be in Morehouse Cemetery, Echo Township, Antrim County, Michigan.

  In memory of James Larry Barnett, Sr., memorial contributions may be directed to the Jordan Valley EMS Authority.  The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.
