James Kenneth Dickerson, 85, of Boyne City and formerly of Davison, Goodrich and Flint, has finally got his wish to be with his heavenly family of nine brothers and sisters on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at McLaren Hiland Cottage Hospice House in Petoskey.
Jim was born on May 13, 1934, in Caro, Michigan, the son of Leland and Grace (Sherman) Dickerson. He grew up in the thumb area of Michigan and on June 22, 1963, in Flint, he married Arthella M. Erfourth.
He worked for General Motors for more than 30 years. He worked mostly at the Chevrolet Truck Assembly in Flint. He retired in 1989. In 1994, Jim and Arthella moved to Boyne City.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Arthella M. Dickerson as well as many nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Mayjo Erfourth and her family; and someone who is very close to his heart, his “adopted daughter”, Tami Fischer and her family, Scott Balzer, Amie Carter, Ryan Balzer as well as all her grandchildren.
He had a great love for his animals. He leaves behind his horse, Squire, of many years and many miles; and his beloved dogs, Muffin, who just recently left him after 16 years and Scooter, who is now left at home and is at a loss without Jim.
Jim belonged to the Michigan Trail Riders for a number of years.
The family sincerely “Thanks” the Hiland Cottage Hospice House for their wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 12:00 Noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Jim’s church, the First Presbyterian Church, Boyne City, would be greatly appreciated.
The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
