John Massey, 58, died Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his home in Boyne Valley Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan.
He was born on February 21, 1964, in Petoskey, Michigan. On October 1, 1983, in Petoskey, he married Laura Beauvais.
John was a self-employed master woodworking craftsman. He was known for his finish carpentry and furniture making. John sometimes embedded cut Petoskey stones into his work. He liked walking in the woods, target shooting, some hunting but a lot of cooking. John helped teach hunter safety courses through the Jordan River Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed many years of coaching his girls softball and soccer teams. Simply, he loved to spend time with his family laughing. He truly loved the pets that he and Laura rescued.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Massey of Boyne Valley Township; three daughters, Alexandria “Alex” (Matthew) Beynen of East Jordan, Kayla (Joe Helsley) Massey of Boyne City and Sydney (Will Hasseld) Massey of Boyne City; seven grandchildren, Leander Beynen, Wesley Beynen, Andromeda Helsley, Joe Helsley, Jr., Aurora Helsley, Arya Helslely and Elijah Helsley; his special in-laws, Paul and Patricia Beauvais of East Jordan; three sisters, Beatrice "Bea" (William) Mayberry of Montana, Constance “Connie” (Jim) Bley of Traverse City and Bonnie (Dale) Wilson of Levering; one brother, Arthur “Art” (Memory) Massey of Pellston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa Bley; and one brother, Ronald Massey.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Missionary Church, East Jordan. Rev. Bart Adams will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 Noon until service time. Memorial may be directed to donor’s choice.
