Jon E. Hartwell, left the earthly bounds on Saturday, May 9, 2026, after 58 hard years.
Jon lived a life defined by kindness, curiosity, and a steadfast commitment to the people he loved, particularly his daughter Taylor and son Jonathon and nephew Richard. Many of you may know Hartwell from his early days in Horton Bay and Boyne City. He graduated from Boyne City High School in 1985. Jon was a dear sweet soul who was the twin of Jodi Hartwell. Jon is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Jodi, and his father Jon.
Jon was known for his love of the outdoors, whether hiking through forest trails, fishing or catching turtles, or sharing quiet mornings by the lake with his family. Jon aspired to be the fictional character of Grizzly Adam's who truly enjoyed nature and loved East Jordan and the Jordan River. He was happiest being outdoors. Friends and neighbors remember him for his quick smile, his sense of humor, always ready with a joke, and his willingness to help anyone in need. Jon’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, especially Carl, Mike and Michele.
He is survived by a daughter, Taylor (Clarence Deroshia) Bellant of Onaway; one son, Jonathon Hartwell, Jr. of East Jordan; four grandchildren, Bailey Bellant, James Bellant, Lucas Bellant and Andreas Newcom; his mother, Mary Hartwell; adopted brother, Mike Charnota of Scottsdale, Arizona; aunt, Mary Lynne Hartwell of Boyne City; his best friend, Carl Buckholz of Boyne City; as well as many other friends who dearly loved Jon.
Jon's famous saying "Carry on, push forward, perseverance and be Positive!+!+!"
A private celebration of life will occur sometime later this summer.
