Karen Lee (Smith) Solgot

Karen Lee Solgot, 80, of East Jordan, Stepped into Glory on August 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Michigan.

Karen was born on July 20, 1942, in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of Frank A. and Mary A. (Towne) Smith.  She married the love of her life, Warren J. Solgot, on December 13, 1958.

Karen was a member of the Harvest Barn Church in East Jordan and also attended Jordan Rivers Church just north of town.  She was also involved in her husband’s ministry, Willing Branches.

Karen was a kind, loving and generous person. She enjoyed her friends, family and had a special place in her heart for children and animals. She had many different pets over the years including, monkeys, donkeys, goats, peacocks, raccoons, Sika deer and her dogs just to name a few. She was also active in the VFW women’s auxiliary in Boyne City as well as the Boyne City Community Christmas.

Karen worked hard over the years to help in the supporting of her family.  In younger years, she worked in the restaurant business.  When moving to Northern Michigan, she worked at Honeywell in Boyne City for 26 years as well as with her husband Warren and her son Kenneth at their family Scrap Yard, JK&W Salvage in East Jordan. In retirement, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, going on mission trips to pray for the sick and spread the gospel with her husband and spending time with her family and friends.

Karen is survived by three children, Sharon Solgot of East Jordan, Cynthia (Ronald) Chitwood of Marine City and Kenneth W. Solgot of Alanson; six grandchildren, Lori (Bradley) Smith of Mancelona, Billie Jo Solgot of East Jordan, Cody Solgot of East Jordan, Rodger (Arlene) Davis of Marine City, Shawn Davis of Marine City and Britni Solgot of Wolverine; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great- great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. and Mary Smith; husband, Warren J. Solgot; three brothers, Frank D., Dallan and Martin Smith; sister, Arni Rushford; nephews Harvey G. Rushford, Jr. and Blair Smith; grandson, Kenneth J. Solgot.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1:00pm at The Harvest Barn Church, 210 S. Lake St. East Jordan Mi, 49727.  Rev. Kimon Criner will officiate.  Interment will at Morehouse Cemetery, Echo Township, Antrim County, Michigan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grandvue Medical Care Facility, 1728 S. Peninsula Road, East Jordan, MI. 49727. Arrangements were handled by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.
