Kay Abramson Obituary

Kay Frances (Church) Abramson originally from Cheboygan, Michigan passed away peacefully and without pain after a brief stay at the Medilodge in Gaylord on May 13, 2025.  She was 87 years old at the time of her passing.

Kay was born on March 9, 1938 to Hazel (Duffiney) Church and John Dewey Church in Cheboygan.  She had 2 siblings, Dorothy Church and John Church.  Kay grew up in the family business of Church’s Grocery later Church’s Party Store on Mackinaw Avenue.  Kay grew up strong willed and independent.  She departed Cheboygan and lived “down-state” for many years.  She returned to Cheboygan in her later years and worked at K-Mart until her retirement.  Eventually, she moved to East Jordan to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law (Pat and Kelly) where she remained the rest of her life.

She loved to cook and took great pleasure in the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.  She was a strong independent woman who took a great deal of pride in her children.  Although she encountered many obstacles, she overcame them with dignity and grace, always optimistic that God will provide. Over the past 10 years she was taken care of by Kelly McGinn and the two spent a lot of time together and developed a very strong bond.  Additionally, she received daily phone calls from her daughter Rosemary (McGinn) Manning who tenaciously made sure that all her needs were met.

She is preceded in death by her parents Hazel and John, her siblings Dorothy and John, her children Esteban Garcia and Kerry McGinn.

She is survived by her Children, Rosemary (Bradley) Manning, Patrick (Kelly) McGinn, Shawn (Vickie) McGinn.   Kay is also survived by 12 Grandchildren and many great-grandchildren And 2 great-great grandchildren.
