On the afternoon of April 20, Laura (Behling) Peck was ushered into the waiting arms of her Savior, greeted by her mother (Granny), sister Martha, brother Bill, brother Ray, sister Margaret, niece Miriam, niece Christine and great, great niece Chanel.
Laura Sue Peck was born August 25, 1963 to Raymond & Margaret (Howard) Behling. Laura graduated from Boyne City High School and went on to attend and graduate from Northwood Institute. Laura held positions in office administration, settling into Charlevoix County Probate Court initially in Juvenal Court, later becoming Registrar of Probate Court. After retiring from the probate court Laura went on to work with Northern Michigan Elder Law a place she could use her gifts with people who were a joy to work with. Wherever she worked or volunteered she was a loyal, detailed employee where others knew whatever she did was done in a most excellent way.
Laura’s greatest joy was being a mother to Jarica and Nick, dedicating her efforts to caring for and loving them. Family and sharing life and relationship with them brought her the most delight. Whether it was camping trips, travel, cooking, organizing and gathering her children & siblings for a family breakfast buffet on a Saturday morning of bacon, sausage, egg casserole, or family Christmas meals.
Laura is survived by her husband Jay, daughter Jarica, son Nicholas & daughter in-law Rheanna (Avery) Peck. Brothers Carl (Karen), Rick (Diane), Rex (Maxine), David (Wendy) and sister Marianne (Bruce), many nieces & nephews and her beloved dogs Koda & Malia or as she called her “Wee-Wee”.
Until the end, Laura was nothing if not joyful and courageous in her battle with cancer. We will greatly miss her smile and adventuresome spirit. But now, we are grateful that she knows what it is like to be genuinely unbound with disease or pain living in a new body in the presence of the Lord.
A memorial service celebrating Laura’s life will be held Sunday, April 24, 2:00pm at the Center Point Assembly Church located at 5291 M-66 in Charlevoix, MI. Rev. David Behling Officiant.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the Behling Family Fund, for community service outreach. They may be sent to P.O. Box 1112 East Jordan, MI. 49727.
The family has been served by Penzien Funeral Home, East Jordan.
