Lawrence "Larry" D. Brooks

Lawrence “Larry” D. Brooks, 80, of East Jordan, died on Monday, January 04, 2021, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

He was born on January 26, 1940, in Lapeer, Michigan, the son of Howard L. and Audrey (Sutherland) Brooks.

In 1961, he married Jackie Roberson Brooks Shepard.  Together they raised two sons, Jeffery Brooks and Michael Brooks.  Larry was a family man and was very close to both of his sons throughout his life.  Larry and Jackie were married for 26 years and when no longer together they remained close friends and “family”.

Larry spent many years as a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operators Union.  After moving to East Jordan with his family in 1974,  Larry worked building residential homes, building two homes for his family.     His talents and versatility were well known by all that knew him.  Larry was soft spoken, easy going and very witty.

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards and jeeping. 

He is survived by two sons, Jeff Brooks (fiancée Brycea Hill) of  East Jordan and Michael (Elizabeth Ann) Brooks of East Jordan; seven grandchildren, Lawrence W. Brooks (Larry of East Jordan, MI.  Jessica Brooks Potter (Jessi), Jeri Elizabeth Brooks Byam (James Byam) of Austin, Texas, Calvin Cody, Emily Cody, Katelynn Brooks and Jackson Brooks all of East Jordan, MI; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Emery Brooks of East Jordan and Ron Brooks of White Lake, MI; two sisters, Joan (John) Zelasko of Indian River and Beverly Krause of Kissimmee, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jim Charles Brooks, Val Joe Brooks and Jack Leo Brooks; and one sister, Phyllis Ann Hopps.

No services are scheduled at this time.  The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.
