Leona Ruth (Peck) Stanek

  Leona Ruth Stanek, 96, died Monday, April 7, 2025, peacefully at her daughter’s home near East Jordan, Michigan.

  She was born on March 10, 1929, in East Jordan, the daughter of Ora Harold and Beatrice (Groh) Peck.  She grew up in East Jordan and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1947. 

  On June 28, 1947, in East Jordan, she married Charles W. Stanek and spent the next 68 years as a farmer’s wife.  

  She also sold Avon for 60 years as well as 40 years clipping fins at the Jordan Valley Fish Hatchery.

  Along with her husband, Leona was active in local government, serving as Jordan Township Clerk and at the Christmas Food Basket in Boyne City.

  In her spare time, Leona bowled in two leagues, picked cherries, worked on a potato harvester, wrote articles in the local newspaper, cleaned houses and was a 4H leader.

  Leona is survived by her five children, Barb (Jay) Imel of East Jordan, Bonnie (Ron) Olund of East Jordan, Betsy (Rick) Olund of East Jordan, Chuck (Laurie) Stanek of East Jordan and Chonnie (Dale) Holzschu of Elmira; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Stanek on September 6, 2007, at their cherished home, the Stanek Family Centennial Farm in Jordan Township, Antrim County, Michigan.  Leona was also preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Kelly Anne Imel in 1971.

  The Stanek family is very grateful to all the family members and close friends who have helped care for her in her final days.

  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Lighthouse Missionary Church, East Jordan.  Rev. Bart Adams will officiate with interment following at Brown Cemetery, Jordan Township, Antrim County.

  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until service time.  The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
