Lorraine Hawley

On Tuesday, December 6th 2022, Lorraine Rose (Schmidtke) Hawley, (82),  of East Jordan died at Highland Cottage in Petoskey, Michigan.

She arrived on the 2nd of August, 1940 in the Village of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan to Otto Thomas and Virginia Lucille (Crooks) Schmidtke.

She married her loving husband George Robert Hawley on May 9th, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan. By 1969, the couple moved to East Jordan, Michigan with their two young children.

For many years Lorraine worked at Grandview Medical Facility and retired at East Jordan True Value.

Throughout her life Lorraine enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crafting, baking of people who she cared for, and being a helper to friends. Lorraine was an active part of the Boy Scouts of America, acting as a Cub Scout Leader to her sons and supporting her grandsons.

Lorraine gave and received much support from the cancer support group she created at the East Jordan First Presbyterian Church. With her cancer battle she was greatly appreciative of her church family members who became fond friends while taking her to monthly cancer treatments. She found great comfort and purpose in connecting with others through their cancer journeys.

The major passion of Lorraine’s life was her grandchildren. She was frequently seen supporting their endeavors such as running competitions and piano recitals. Lorraine was never too shy to brag about her grandchildren’s accomplishments.

She is survived by her sons Robert (Diane), and Richard Hawley. Grandchildren: Brooke Hawley, Abigail (Devin) Hawley, Luke (Lacey) Hawley, Gabriel Hawley, and Taylor Hawley. A great grandchild Cora Hawley, and one living sibling Thomas Schmidtke.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, sister (Jean Elena McCann), and great grandchild Regina Hawley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of East Jordan, Michigan and Highland Cottage of Petoskey, Michigan.
