Michael James Buttigieg, 72, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at his home in Wilson Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan.
He was born on February 4, 1954, in Detroit, the son of Vincent and Mary (Mirabitur) Buttigieg. He graduated from Redford High School in 1972.
He married Tammy Fair on May 15, 1994.
They moved to the East Jordan area in 1996 and full time in 1988.
Michael was the owner of Michael’s Locksmith.
Michael was a very eclectic individual. He loved his job working as a locksmith. He studied and engaged in philosophy, wide variety of science including environmental and alternative energy. His home has been off the energy grid for 18 years. He enjoyed his conversations with his friends at the coffee shop. He found peace in simple things and the beauty in the complex. Michael was a spiritual soul who loved the great outdoors, his fish tanks and cooking.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Buttigieg of Wilson Township; four sisters, Esther (Keith) Haberstroh of Cody, Wyoming, Lisa (Joe) Ligreci of Plymouth, Annette (John) O’Donohue of White Lake and Jackie Buttigieg of Cedar; and two special “adopted grandson” Jagger Nicholls and Keller Nicholls, both of Boyne City. Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent, Jr. and sister, Cheryl.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Farm at Frog Hollow, 2750 M-75, Boyne City, MI 49712.
