Norma Lynette Petrie, 70, died at home in the presence of her three daughters; Rebecca (Jay) Lomnicky, Julia (David) Lawson, and Jeanne (Rob) Stucky and surrounded by her nine grandchildren; Julian, Emmett, Eloise, Adelle, Ramona, Lachlan, Inman, Lysander, and Sovereign.
Norma lived her life without constraint, always willing to drive any distance for an adventure, and traveled worldwide with friends and family. No trip was left behind, as Norma would often invite herself along at the slightest mention of travel. She was treasured as a travel companion, always seeking the best cup of coffee and happy to scout out deals at resale shops. Norma spent hours walking around new cities, exploring local bookstores and cafés.
Norma felt connected to her home near the Jordan Valley. She enjoyed hiking in the woods, tapping trees for maple syrup, and hunting for morel mushrooms. She spent time at home writing poetry and short stories, reading, playing scrabble with her sisters, and baking with her grandchildren. Her quick wit and thoughtful conversation were welcomed by her book club and her family.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Rodney Petrie, her brother Jim Petrie, and her sister Iris Shaw, as well as beloved nephews and in laws.
A memorial will be held at Norma’s house (5169 St. John’s Rd, East Jordan) on April 22nd from 2 to 4 PM. You are encouraged to bring a memory to share.
