Pamela Jo Crouch passed away peacefully from complications due to cancer in her
home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, at the age of 64. Pamela was born to
Jerry and Lucille Crouch on October 10th, 1959. She was a kind-hearted, caring, and
passionate woman with a knack for touching the lives of those she met. She was raised in
Lansing, MI. Even as a kid, she knew what she wanted and approached things head-on to get
them. Pam always seemed to know how to make things happen. She went to Central Michigan
University to study special education because she knew that helping students with special
needs was how she could positively impact many people's lives.
After working briefly at Colby Kansas Public Schools, Pamela found her way back to
Michigan, settling in Boyne City. It was in Boyne City that Pamela made her home and found
lifelong companionship with a group of women who affectionately called themselves the "Dirty
Girl Scouts" (inspired by the famous bar drink). Being a part of this group was not just a pastime
for Pamela but a significant part of her life and identity.
Her resilience and determination marked Pamela's journey. She dreamed of owning a
house and raising a couple of kids in Boyne City. She turned that dream into a reality when she
had her sons Caleb and Elliot. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to ensure her sons
never felt the absence of a second parent. Her devotion to nurturing and guiding them, instilling
in them the values of kindness, resilience, and determination, was a testament to her strength.
She wanted her sons to feel supported and know that whatever they chose to do, she would
make sure they could dive in head first.
In the latter part of her life, Pamela found a love that brought her immense joy and
happiness. Anthony Bukrey became the love of her life, and together, they formed an
inseparable bond, bringing out the best in each other. Anthony's presence in Pamela's life was a
source of happiness that was visible to all. Their shared love for outdoor adventures, from
camping and fishing to hunting and boating on "Little Ruby," the pontoon they "accidentally"
purchased while shopping for strawberries. Pamela and Anthony's families merged, creating a
new family unit. Pamela embraced her role as a step-parent to Holly and as a grandparent to
Promise and Hailie. In the last year of her life, Pamela felt blessed to spend time with her
newest granddaughter Elena.
Pam is survived by her husband, Anthony Bukrey; sons Caleb (Liz) and Elliot (Taylor);
stepdaughter Holly Snider; niece Bree Peters (Derek); great-nephew Maddox Peters; nephew
Mitchele; mother Lucille; sisters Vickie and Denise (Kathy Long); brothers Mike and Mark
(Sherry); granddaughter Elena; step-granddaughters Promise Snider and Hailie Snider; and
family friend Jan Hite. She was predeceased by her father, Jerry, and sisters-in-law Marlo, Mary,
and Karen Bovin.
