Sandra Kay (Vogt) Nemecek

  Sandra Kay Nemecek, 81, of East Jordan, died on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Charlevoix.

  She was born on June 11, 1943, in Temple, Texas, the daughter of John and Helen (Wozniac) Vogt.

  She married Lawrence Leon Nemecek on September 25, 1965, in Jackson, Michigan

  Sandra was a Registered Nurse for many years. She was a past president of the nursing association which covered five states. She received the State of Michigan 1996 “Nurse of the Year” award.

  Her career began in Petoskey Area Hospital and spanned to working in East Jordan at the Family Health Center as a Clinical Coordinator, Charlevoix Area Hospital in the ICU and Otsego Memorial Hospital where she was over saw the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program.

  Sandy was an avid traveler and had a zest for experiencing new places. She took multiple trips around the world and was always looking for the next adventure. Closer to home, Sandy enjoyed golfing and bingo. She attended as many sporting events of her grandchildren that she could and for those she missed, would always send a text or phone call to get the details. 

  One of her favorite places to stay was the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Sitting on the legendary porch sipping a cosmopolitan after a round of golf on the Jewel golf course was a day well spent.  

  Sandy was very active in the oversight and management of the family's centennial farm. You would often find her navigating the property in her "buggy" and making sure things were in order and planning for the next order of business. 

  She is survived by three children, Lawrence A. (Jackie) Nemecek of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Philip J. (Patty) Nemecek of East Jordan and Laura L. (Kevin) Harmelink of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Norman Vogt of East Jordan and Gerald Vogt of California.

  A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 4976 St. Johns Road, East Jordan, MI 49727.  Rev. Fr. Matthew Furgiuele will officiate with interment following at St. John Nepomucene Praga Cemetery.
