Shirley I. Shepard, 99, of East Jordan, died on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan where she’s been a resident since 2015.
She was born on January 25, 1923, in East Jordan, the daughter of Gilbert and Minnie (Vermillion) Sturgell. Shirley graduated from East Jordan High School in 1940. On August 26, 1946, in East Jordan, she married Walter “Bud” Shepard. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Shirley worked in many office settings including the East Jordan Creamery, a newspaper, in the personnel department at General Motors Corporation, J.C. Penny and as an administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Eaton Rapids Public Schools. She’s was a member of the East Jordan United Methodist Church, Administrative Board of the East Jordan United Methodist Church and the Michigan Association of Retired School Persons. She enjoyed bowling. She was proud of participating at the national bowling championships.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Roger C. (Blynn) Shepard of Aberdeen, Washington and Randall Shepard of Sault Ste. Marie; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Sturgell; one daughter-in-law, Ana Shepard; and one sister-in-law, Helen Sturgell.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, East Jordan. Rev. Craig Pahl will officiate with interment at Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials contributions may be directed to the East Jordan United Methodist Church, Grandvue Medical Care Facility or the American Cancer Society.
