Stephen "Steve" Mumich, Jr. Obituary

 

  Stephen “Steve” Michael Mumich Jr., 88, of Elmira and formerly of East Jordan, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in Midland, Michigan.

  He was born on February 1, 1934, in Boyne Falls, Michigan, the son of Stephen Michael, Sr. and Anna Genevieve (Tesluck ) Mumich.  He graduated from Boyne Falls High School in 1952.

  He married his wife of 69 years, Barbara Lee LaForest on February 14, 1953, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City.

Stephen served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957.

  Stephen lived in East Jordan for most of his life but recently resided in Elmira.  He worked for the East Jordan Iron Works, now known as EJ, USA, Inc., for 38 years.  He retired as plant manager in 1997.

  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his family. He loved artistic repurposing.  He was also a farmer.  He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan as well as St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City.

  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mumich of Elmira; five children, Janet Krussell of  Zephyrhills, Florida, Marge Marker (Sam Makarewicz) of Elmira, Stephen M. Mumich III of Midland, Eileen (Tom) Dickey, Churchton, Maryland and Barry Mumich of East Jordan; twenty one grandchildren; thirty three great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Fredlund of Kansas and Genevieve Borowiak of Gaylord.  He was preceded in death by one infant son, Matthew Kenneth Mumich on December 31, 1961; one daughter, Theresa “Terri” Barbara Mumich on November 12, 1972; one brother, Edward Mumich; and one sister, Dorthey Hublick.

  A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City.  Rev. Fr. Dennis Stilwell will officiate with military honors following at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City. Following the Military Ceremony, there will be a luncheon served at St. Matthews Catholic Church.

  A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., East Jordan with a rosary service at 7:30 P.M.
