Richard R. Skop, 81, of East Jordan died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan with his family by his side.
Richard was born on May 27, 1936, in Elmira, the son of Peter and Victoria (Petroski) Skop also of Elmira. Richard grew up in Elmira.
On September 27, 1958, in Elmira, Richard married Christina H. Whitney. They made their home in Elmira and later in East Jordan, and raised six kids.
Richard worked as a deckhand for Great Lake freighters for many years. He also had worked at the East Jordan Iron Works, as an apartment complex manager and maintenance worker in Charlevoix and for the American Vault Company in Gaylord.
Richard is survived by his wife, Christina Skop of East Jordan; three sons, Terry (Brenda) Skop of East Jordan, Duane Skop of East Jordan Scott Skop of East Jordan; three daughters, Sherry Roof of East Jordan, Cindy (Ken Warren) Skop of East Jordan and Debbie (Jim) Cesaro of East Jordan; lots of grandchildren and great grandkids; two brothers, Chet Skop of Elmira and Edward (Edna) Skop of Milford; as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Dana Skop Phipps; two brothers, Donald and Leonard Skop; and one sister, Eugina Kubacki.
A memorial mass preceded by a rosary service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 3:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan. The family will receive friends at church on Friday from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Skop family to be used towards funeral expenses.
